New York Transit Museum

Given the frigid weather that the City has experienced recently, a trip underground to the New York Transit Museum can be an interesting and educational reason to get out of the apartment. The New York Transit Museum (NYTM) is located in the decommisioned Court Street subway station, located at the corner of Schermerhorn Street & Boerum Place in downtown Brooklyn. The museum opened as an exhibit on July 4, 1976 and was so popular that it eventually became a permanent museum. The upper level of the NYTM has a typical museum format with exhibits and displays, detailing the history of the New York City subway system. The lower level is where you get your $7 dollars worth.  Upon descending to the lower level, you will find a still functioning subway station with one platform and two tracks that store a historical cross section of preserved subway cars. Since the tracks are live, the interior of each subway car is illuminated as they originally were, taking you back to each era as you walk from car to car. Another interesting feature of the cars are the original advertisements that canvas the interiors.

Fiona

I recently had the opportunity to shoot headshots for Fiona Gibb, Web Editor for the beauty website Allure - www.allure.com. Fiona has an impressive resume in the digital publishing world and she was an awesome individual to shoot and get to know. In an age when it is almost impossible to get someone's attention for more than 5 minutes without being distracted by smartphones, headshot sessions offer a rare opportunity to connect with someone for an hour or two and have their complete undivided attention. Given that opportunity, my goal is to a) provide people with awesome headshots and b) create an environment where people can feel comfortable and have fun. I think Fiona came to the session knowing that she would get quality headshots but didn't realize that taking pictures could be fun and that she would spend half the time laughing.

Little Leaky

It isn't everyday that you get a call from your landlord saying, "A water valve busted in the apartment above yours' and we can't tell if it has leaked into your apartment." The landlord said the leak was above the bedroom so I quickly tried to visualize what was on the floor and the first thing that came to mind was my camera bag. On that note, I hopped into a cab and headed home. When I got there I could see where the water had run down the side of the building and all the balconies from the 3rd floor down were covered in icicles. Upon entering my apartment, I was at first relieved that my dog Buddy was ok and not doggie paddling around the apartment, and then really relieved to find that the water was contained to a corner of the bedroom. Luckily a chair, that was covered in a stack of extra blankets and towels, was strategically placed right beneath the leak and had absorbed probably 90% of the water!

Below are some of the pictures from the scene of the leak. The water that ran down the walls formed some pretty cool looking bubble trails.

Summer in December

Thanks to a rare December thunderstorm, the evening sky looked more inline with what you would see during the 4th of July rather than the Christmas season.
