New York Transit Museum

Given the frigid weather that the City has experienced recently, a trip underground to the New York Transit Museum can be an interesting and educational reason to get out of the apartment. The New York Transit Museum (NYTM) is located in the decommisioned Court Street subway station, located at the corner of Schermerhorn Street & Boerum Place in downtown Brooklyn. The museum opened as an exhibit on July 4, 1976 and was so popular that it eventually became a permanent museum. The upper level of the NYTM has a typical museum format with exhibits and displays, detailing the history of the New York City subway system. The lower level is where you get your $7 dollars worth.  Upon descending to the lower level, you will find a still functioning subway station with one platform and two tracks that store a historical cross section of preserved subway cars. Since the tracks are live, the interior of each subway car is illuminated as they originally were, taking you back to each era as you walk from car to car. Another interesting feature of the cars are the original advertisements that canvas the interiors.
